Household Hazardous Waste / Recycling

Begun in March of 1998, Carmel’s Household Hazardous Waste facility is administered by the City of Carmel Water-Wastewater Utility. “The City of Carmel’s Household Hazardous Waste Disposal facility is very pleased to offer Carmel citizens and Carmel Utilities customers a safe, convenient way to get rid of household hazardous waste,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.

Items such as solvents, pesticides and paint products can pose fire hazards and, if not disposed of properly, may threaten local waterways and groundwater. Because of increasing concern for the environment, and the desire to not simply send these types of items to a landfill, the Household Hazardous Waste program has been increasing in popularity since its inception. This program is offered free-of-charge to City of Carmel residents and/or Carmel Utilities residential customers. Items dropped off at the Carmel facility are properly packaged and shipped for further recycling or proper disposal.
